Tirupati Eco City Women Action for Sustainable Sanitation and Environment Management
The purpose of the project is to replicate MESMICA (Model Eco System Management Involving Community in Action) project supported by UNDP-SGP implemented at Tirupati and consolidate the achievements on a sustainable basis involving women members of Livelihood and Ecological Security Groups.(LES Group)
Goal of the project is to reduce, recycle and reuse munciple solid waste and achieve climate change mitigation, contain land degradation and reduce persistent organic pollutants in air, soil and water.
A systematic process for Solid Waste Management with the following components is envisaged in this project.
1. Identification of the Area and Community.
2. Creation of Stakeholder Groups.
3. Meeting with Residential Groups.
4. Formation of a Associations and awareness on this subject.
5. Recruitment of Rag Pickers/Waste Retrievers called ?Parishuddhatha Vahakaru? meaning cleanliness facilitators (called Safai Mitra?s in Hindi)
6. Disposal of waste into hand carts.
7. Recycling using the facility and sending the remains to kabadiwalas.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Small street plays, formation and strengthening of RWAs, involvement of colleges, schools, clean drives etc will be done. Pamphlets, banners have been used extensively.
Replication of project activities
The present TECWASSEM is replication of MESMICA supported by UNDP GEF SGP and this project involving more components, participation with effective back and front end connectivity can be replicated elsewhere with for ease and ensured results.
