Sustainable management of grazing land in Dumbravioara and promotion of eco-turism
Sustainable management of grazing land in Dumbravioara and promotion of eco-turism
The project aims for the conservation of pastures on the left bank of the river Mures through its rehabilitation, through establishing a model of sustainable land management by involving the local community and through introducing some techniques of solar energy use.
This way the project addresses 3 GEF focal areas: sustainable land management, biodiversity conservation and climate change. It has 3 major objectives accordingly: The first objective, rehabilitation of the community grazing-land and the application of techniques of sustainable management will be achieved through the acquisition of high-scale digital maps, and the definition of an action plan for the use of the grazing land followed by the actual rehabilitation work and the building of a resting place for animals. This objective also requires actions like deepening the well the animals would drink from and building a traditional house from straw wisps. Land management would also mean the introduction of ?electric shepherd? and providing consultancy as far as the use of alternative energies (solar ? in this case) is concerned.
The second objective is ?Raising awareness of climate change through suggesting solutions for the use alternative energy sources and composting.? This will happen by organizing seminars on ?Global warming ? what can we do??, and publishing informative materials. A composting base will also be built, and solar energy will be introduced to the grazing-land management, together with consultancy for the local community as far as the newly introduced technology and its use is concerned. Last but not least, the project intends to promote eco-tourism based on the white stork as a touristic objective. This would require activities like printing publications and other materials on the village and its values, setting up an information point and an information pane. It is also intended to integrate the bird rehabilitation center as a touristic objective as well as organizing the traditional White stork festival.
The implementing organization has two partners and enjoys the full support of the local community and the local authorities.
