Turning to account agrotourism as an alternative resource for the communities in the Maramures Mountains Nature Reserve
The aim of the project is the development of alternative sustenable livelihoods in the area Bistra-Petrova-Ruscova-Repedea-Poienile de sub Munte by promoting agri-tourism in the Natural Park of Muntii Maramuresului and involving the citizens.
The project has 2 objectives:
Objective 1: Growing the capacity of local communities in the agri-tourism field, to provide alternative livelihoods by the sustainable exploitation of natural resources
Objective 2: To promote agri-tourism in the area Bistra-Petrova-Ruscova-Repedea-Poienile de sub Munte.
The project?s activities are: promote the project and establish the project team; inform the communities about the project, the values of local biodiversity in the Natural Park Muntii Maramuresului and the need to conserve it; organize training in agri-tourism, also a marketing training for handicrafts; create an NGO in agri-tourism; issue an information news bulletin; consultancy for agri-tourism operators; organize a visit to the few pensions in Bucovina; organize a handicrafts fair; make an inventory of the agri-tourist supply of area; create tourist information offices; create a web site; realize a film in DVD/CD format; make informative panels.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
- 300 participants in the meetings of the Working Groups for Agro-tourism, including representatives of local minorities (Ukrainians) - 200 persons involved in the Initiative Group established for the information on the local biodiversity values and the need for their protection - 32 persons trained on the management of a small agro-tourism business
Notable Community Participation
Five communities, with a total population of over 26,000 inhabitants, from the Nature Park Muntii Maramuresului are included in the project activities. Working Groups on agro-tourism will be set up in each community.
