Production of organic bee products from mountainous and semi-mountainous regions with world wide biodiversity and monitoring of endangered plant species
Location:
Karlovo municipality ? Town of Kalofer, Djebel municipality ? Sofiici village, Zlatograd municipality ? Town of Zlatograd, Elena municipality ? Sredni Kolibi village.
The project aim is to address the local community needs. The organic beekeeping development will generate additional income for the local community involved in the yield of various bee products. By means of organic honey production the project tends to increase the area of sustainably controlled territries.

Our goal is to establish at least 3 new bee farms or to enlarge already existing farms where to start a process for organic beekeeping certification. We expect within a period of 18 monts from the project kick off date the bee farms to be already certified.

Main activities:
Training of beekeepers in charge of the project development;
Bee farm development: purchase of bee hives, bee colonies and inventory;
Initiation of a procedure for bee farm certification as an organic one;
Terrain determination and monitoring of the endangered plant species;
Production and sale of the organic bee products;
Project output promotion;
Publishing the results from the monitoring of the endangered plant species;

Alongside with the establishment of new organic bee farms, the project goal is to achieve an expansion of the permanently controlled territories. The beekeepers involved in the production of organically certified bee products in order to secure their yield/income will actively protect and develop all sources of bee pollen and honey dew including the endangered plant species.

Another aim of the project is to serve as a model for future initiatives regarding the local development of organic farming on gradually expanding territories. For that purpose the project results will be promoted through various media sources on a national and local (municipality) level so it can serve as a best practice example to other beekeepers from the region who would be interested in switching from conventional to organic beekeeping.
