Demonstration of a complex use of solar energy for water heating and fruit & vegetable drying purposes by the example of children’s home in Uralsk
Now, on the territory of the Western Kazakhstan an active hydro-carbon raw materials prospecting and mining is observed. Local people feel the greenhouse effect impact in full measure. Due to strong concentration of greenhouse gases over the area, the record high temperature of + 45 ? is observed during summer time. The industrial production and motor transport over-functioning also aggravate the environmental situation in the region. Thus, replacement of traditional energy resources for alternative ones is becoming one of the important issues.
Project aim:
Demonstration of a complex use of solar energy for water heating and fruit & vegetable drying purposes on the example of children?s home in Uralsk.
Project tasks:
The project supposes to supply the children?s home with a fruit, vegetable & fish processing line owing to free-running energy-saving system by means of maintenance of a helio-plant and solar drying system, with subsequent sale of the produced output; also a complex of informational activities will be realized to share the experience gained among a wide audience both in Uralsk and Eastern Kazakhstan.
Project results:
- The Children?s house is supplied with a functioning line for fruit, vegetable & fish processing owing to free-running energy-saving system by means of maintenance of a helio-plant and solar drying system, with subsequent sale of the produced output;
- Additional workplaces are opened;
- Environmental activity of inmates of the children?s home is raised
- The experience of success usage of solar energy for heating and drying purposes is gained

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The project activity will be widely observed through mass media ? articles will be published in local and regional newspapers, video-plots will be demonstrated on TV. To reach the local population also be more aware about the project activities, a series of seminars will be arranged, an ?open doors? days will be organized, so that everybody could come and see the system working.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project is quite relevant as the inmates of the children?s home now don?t have any sources to get additional income, the home?s budget is strongly regulated from the state budget. The project will give children a possibility to satisfy their daily food requirements and compensate poor nutrition. Children will be able to get income out of sale of the dried fruits & vegetables. It?s planned that the project will contribute to opening of 10 additional workplaces. Besides, the project activity will supply the Children?s home with hot water.
