Community Based Eco-Tourism In O Bak Rotes
This planning grant was fully funded by UNDP TRAC fund thruogh SGP team to support Community in developing full proposal.
The Development of Safe Water Facilities Project aims to address the problems of lack of household water use either for life and livelihood. To achieve these purpose three main activities were designed including constructing water pipeline system to get water from upstream distributing to two hundred within 3 villages in Chambok commune, digging five water ponds for 800 families in five villages in Prsat Sombo district, Kg.Thom Province, and providing 300 small scale water filters for household families for Chambok and Cham Sangker commune, Kg. Speu Province. The management committee and policies for using and maintaining the water supply system will be established and applied.

To guarantee the sustainability of the project, Mlup Baitong will develop two mechanisms: the integration of rules of using the water supply system into the existing community committee's regulation. The integration of revolving funds policy also are established and integrated into the existing self-help group?s policy. The revolving funds policy will encourage the self help groups to save funds from the use of water filters. With these funds, the community will be able to purchase more water filters in the future.

Notable Community Participation
O? Bak Rotes commune of Kampong Seila district, Koh Kong Province which is located about 120 kilometers from Phnom Penh or about 13 kilometers from Pich Nil is the potential ecotourism site identified by Mlup Baitong. The good relationship between Mlup Baitong and the O? Bak Rotes community has developed over the last few years. The existing O? Bak Rotes natural resource management committee would like to initiate eco-tourism in their area, similarly to the Chambok Community Based Eco-Tourism in Phnom Sruich of Kampong Speu province. Being aware of Mlup Baitong's good experience in facilitating the Chambok CBET project, the committee requested Mlup Baitong to provide technical assistance to create the O? Bak Rotes community based eco-tourism.
