Project Characteristics and Results

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

 WACD shall make sure with relevant stakeholders to establish long-term strategy to ensure sustainability of the project and overview of existing resources. The discussion with relevant stakeholders working in those communities to indicate the possibilities of handing over successful achievement and resources to communities and to look at the possibilities and behavioral changes of CF members at program level to consider effective and strategic direction for addressing sustainable CFM, food security and income generation.

Capacity - Building Component

 During the course of project implementation, target groups received several capacity building supports and lesson learnt from working experience necessary for effective operation and maintenance of water filter, water ponds, water containers in accordance with guideline and policy adopted by communities themselves so that they can manage their own acitivities and establish linkage with key stakeholders for technical assistance and cooperation  WACD continue to provide guidance and technical support to the communities and pool resources where applicable in order to build upon their existing resource beyond the project life time.

Notable Community Participation

In order to ensure the project sustainability after the current funding of UNDP SGP-GEF ends, the general approach is established among target groups and involvement of stakeholders. That is to provide guidance, partnership and capacity building support to village key local persons who will then join together and pool resources where possible in order to build and strengthen community groups with clear roles and responsibilities. During the course of project implementation the target groups (at commune and municipal level) receive necessary trainings and work in partnership with WACD and in collaboration with various institutions involved so that they can manage their own activities of operation and maintenance of water filter tanks, ponds and containers and link with CCs, and other stakeholder. During the various activities of the project, other service providers will be able to establish linkage and confirm the commitment to support the achievement and jointly manage their own activities.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

the project operation and management for the long term period and to ensure that target groups receive great benefits from the project in way that is environmentally sustainable, WACD in collaboration with stakeholders establish future plan for sustainability.

Project Results

Anticipated Results:
? 500 most vulnerable families will be provided with ?Rabbit? water filter for producing safe water enough for the whole family?s use (drinking and cooking).
? Clean drinking water produced by filter tanks providing simultaneous arsenic and pathogen removal improving the health of people in the target area and reducing the incidence of water-borne diseases and permanent physical deformities
? 10 Trainings on Health and Sanitation Education (HSE) will be conducted for 500 women coming from the 500 families receiving water filters of the10 villages
? Increased clear understanding on Health and Sanitation and proper operation and maintenance of ?Rabbit? filter, and household clean water though various activities such as Raido program, community-based education, publication (poster, manual, leaflets)
? 20% or 30% financial contribution of the total cost per water-filter collected and invested to the saving groups (they can pay once or twice within two months), thereby developing pro-poor micro-financing scheme beyond their financial saving on monthly basis involving saving groups to provide loan for their members to set up and develop their business in engagement with income generation
? 4 ponds (30m x 40m x 5m) that have capability to store water up to 6000m3 for each in both seasons shall be installed at 4 villages (3 villages in Dohkramom CF and another outside the CFs but in the same commune) with serious arsenic water-contamination to supply adequate and safe water for the communities? consumption both at household level and income generation level. Estimated 374 farmer families with total 1561 population will use the 4 ponds for multi-purpose use in accordance rule and guideline adopted by WUG members and WSMCs on equality and sustainability
? Water-pond users will earn additional income beyond their daily income to support their livelihood through adequate water supply for their improved farming productivity
? 2 water containers with sewerage system to bring rainwater and store for other use shall be installed at Phsar Prom Health Center and O?beng Primary school
? Access to safe and adequate water with quality, equality and sustainability shall be increased
