Seas grass conservation is taken place in Chrouy Pros commune, Koh Kong province. There used to be 20 ha conservation with support from UNDP GEF SGP CORE FUND and another 20 ha from UNDP GEF SPG TRAC fund.

Seasgrass are considered as the source of food for turtles, crabs, shrimps, dugongs, and other species which provide high economic values in term of food for local people and tourism attraction for outsiders. Naturally, its helps to absorb most of the toxic polluted caused by the erosion and agricultural expansion with intensified of pesticide use and sedimentation. During the evaluation, there was no clear data available on the total areas of sea grass in the coastal areas, and its economic values/ha.

The national fishery administration action plan 2006-2010 shows UNEP will support the long term vision of protection seagrass with 90km2 in order to achieve sustainable use, conservation and management, reduce poverty and improve livelihood of the coastal communities.

The work are done through the community-based organizations, the Natural Resource Community Coalition of Koh Kapic, Koh Sralao and Chrouy Pros (NRCC) with technical supported from Participatory Mangrove Conservation Resources (PMRC) project staff based in the province. The concrete poles made by cements (15cm x 15 cm) with 330 poles have been produced with subcontracted to local people in Koh Sralao village and longer poles with 26 for protecting the seas grass from destructive fishing equipments.

Three bigger signboard and 8 smaller signboards have been produced and put into public spaces and protecting areas for awareness raising, conservations and participation conservation from local people. Many signboards have been post in the purpose of conservation as mentioned below.

The long benefit from sea grass protection and conservation will contribute to the eco-system services. The direct benefit can be seen in daily food for consumption and selling. The example from crab catching benefit showed fishers could catch more from October to June. Fishers with 300 crab drop nets, managed to catch crab around 2.5kg (meat). 1kg cost 200 Baht. In average, fishers have 500 to 800 crab dropping nets and they could catch crab (in processed meat) about 9 kg/day. They could earn around 1,800 Bath/day. Fishing activities take two times/day: morning started from 4 am and back at 10 am, afternoon took at 1 pm and back around 4 pm (sometimes 5 pm).
