Reducing the damage to the forest biodiversity by replacing chemical control of pests to the methods received from plants on the territory of Shaidan ayul okmot

Lately the Shaidan ayul okmot has been suffering from all kinds of pests on agricultural and forest areas. The forest households are trying to fight with these pests but greater areas are left out. In addition to it, local population oftentimes uses protectants of chinenese production that can be helpeful one year and harmful the next year. This region formerly was famous for its vegetables, cotton and nuts but unfortunately constant build-up of persistant organic pollutants has lead to land exhaustion, air and water pollution.
Jamaat "Umut" aims to introduce a traditional method of fighting with pests by using natural plants in order to reduce number of pests and diseases and receive organic products for the population. It will be achieved through opening a mini-shop on production of plant protectants and their sale.

Project Characteristics and Results

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

During the information campaign the awareness about global environment is expected to rise.

Capacity - Building Component

People will learn how to fight with harmful insects. Receive knowledge on how the natural ecological product is made and used.

Notable Community Participation

Since the population of the Shaidan ayul okmot are worried about murrain, it is intheir interest to cooperate with the NGO. Over 500 families are involved in this project.

Gender Focus

The collectors of the main ingridient for natural ecological product will be primarily women.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The creation of their own product "Ecologically friendly product" will help to prevent the use of chinese pesticides. And therefore minimize the harm from insects and the hazardous pesticides.

Project sustainability

The local population was convinced that use of pesticides received from pesticides by traditional methods not only safety for human and environment but also more effective and productive than chemical pesticides from China.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

The project expects to establish a Financial Support Foundation that will promote use of traditional plants with a trademark and create its own clientele.

Project Results

The main result of the project is that the local inhabitants have got obtained a knowledge about harmful affects of chemical pesticides to environment and introducing traditional plant protecting methods in local agriculture practice. The local inhabitants are having implemented alternative pesticides and organized a control on use of pesticides. For the effective results a mini nursery for helpful kinds of insects combating with pests have been organized. A workshop producing plant pesticides have been launched. By the end of the project there are 500 liters of pesticides received from plants have been produced and their sale was organized. All these results had been achieved thanks to a wide information campaign and practical and research measures conducted by the project executers.
