Sixty (60) households were visited in 4 villages: Ntmbeni, Ndaleni, Phatheni and Smozomweni over the period 23 -24 July 2007, 59 (98%) respondents indicated they would be interested in accessing the technology, with 98% also reporting that they felt the use of the technology would benefit the community overall.

The communities in which the the survey was done with are under the leadership of the Tribal Authority under the chiefs

The main project objective is one of educating and uplifting rural communities. Educating communities on issues of alternative energy sources and climate change. Uplifting the community through cleaner cost effective energy sources. The elementary daily effort that is required to keep this energy source active are minimal compared to the gathering of wood fuel. The agricultural collage has been commissioned and undertaken to assist the community in the furthering of the constraction of digesters as the families in the community can afford and are ready to do so.

The project will be self sustaining and the Zakhe Training centre along with Trade plus Aid will as part of its curriculum continue to encourage and assist the community in the building and developing of further bio-gas instillations with the view of alternative environmentally clean energy sources becoming part of everyday existance.

This climate friendly technology is elementary to construct and operate an alternative energy resource that will reduce work burden on woemn in the domestic household, begin process o raising awareness of issues of climate change, prevent deforestation, have a positive influence on health issues and build community capacity through the sale of carbon offsets.
