Restoration of Forest to Ensure Survival of Kolam - a Primitive tribe
Project envisages ecosystem resotration and biodiversity conservation as key programmatic areas; which are being reflected through project objectives which are being reflected through project objectives.
The project has been developed keeping the following objectives under consideration:
a.Forest restoration
b. Food and Nutrition Security.
c.Initiating advocacy by strengthening the study group on threatened Tribal Group.
Project focusses on following thematic areas:
a. Forest ecosystems: Sustainable community based activities in forest conservation areas and apply sustainable use methods in forestry as part of management in forest landscapes.
b. Creation of participatory schemes for natural resource management by local and indigenous communities.
c. Promotion of sustainable production and use of non-timber forests product.
c. Biodiversity conservation focal area.
d. Demonstration of community-based approaches to the conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems in and around conservation areas.

Project Characteristics and Results
Replication of project activities
. Identification of 8 village level volunteers in consultation with jat panchayat members and imparting training to them.
. Discussions with villager elders, knowledgeable individuals meetings and focused groups discussions with jat panchayat members , SHG members , farmers , NTFP collectors, Traditional healers , Medicine man , herdsmen etc
. Preparation of herbarium and photo documentation.
. Computerisation of the data collected.
. Preparation of forests restoration plan to be approved by jat panchayat and Gram panchayat.
. Liasion with National Rural Employment Gurantee implementing authorities for technical and budgetary approval to take up activities started in the forest restoration plan.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
?Formulating forest restoration plans for eight villages.
?Providing community protection to 1000 hectares of forest and to undertake plantation of 60,000 saplings on 100 hectares. (farm land, village common lands and on forest)
?Backyard kitchen garden of vegetables, medicinal plants and fruit trees for 80 families.
?Livestock management-training to 16 livestock health workers.
?Construction of 16 appropriate storage structures of food grains and NTFPs.
