Improving rangeland management and carpet production in Irsal
I. OBJECTIVES
Improving rangeland management through cumulative experiences and improving feed quality and introducing new adapted forage plants. Accordingly, improvement of wool quality for carpet weaving and introducing it to new markets.
II. ACTIVITIES
? Awareness Activities including:
1. Hold meetings with local people of Irsal highlighting the projects importance for them,
2. Strengthening and reactivating the herds owners cooperative,
3. Survey land use/classification in the area to decide on pilot areas and farmers,
4. Land preparation,
5. Decide on locations of water catchments ponds and establish them,
6. Grass harvesting for feed,
7. pilot planting of Atriplex and some varieties of cactus for animal feed,
8. land preparation for 2nd forage crop cultivation for feed,
? Wool Carpet weaving including:
1. meeting with herds owners and wool production experts,
2. Purchase of weaving machine,
3. Purchase of appropriate Environment friendly dyes,
4. Wool harvesting and preparation for weaving,
5. Creation of new designs for weaving,
6. Conducting local and mobile exhibition for the new wool products,
7. Conducting training workshops on marketing,
8. Establishing permanent market place for the wool products,
9. Establishing marketing networks at the local, national and international level.
? Project documentation on all its stages and lessons learnt.
? Holding workshop with partners and other stakeholders to share the results with them.
