Organic olive production project at Yohmor El-Chquif
I. BACKGROUND
Farmers in the village of Yohmor El Chequif rely mainly on olive plantation for their survival. The farmers still rely on traditional methods for their agriculture. Some of them have started to use pesticides in order to improve their yields. Therefore there is a need to improve this agriculture by adopting organic farming. This will have an impact on quantity and quality. At another level this Project will contribute in decreasing desertification and decrease the immigration of people from rural areas.
II. OBJECTIVES
The objective of the Project is to train 30 farmers on organic techniques concerning the agriculture of olives.
III. ACTIVITIES
? Select 30 olive farmers
? Train selected farmers techniques of organic agriculture of olive
? Secure certificates of organic agriculture
? Establish an olive byproducts? packaging center.
The local community is involved through the participation of the municipality in direct planning and monitoring.
