Background:
- A major threat to Oak forest in Kurdistan is the fuel wood consumption and the illegal border trading of fuel. Therefore this project is trying to provide an alternative to fuel wood consumption in IRA/SGP/OP4/RAF/07/01 OAK FOREST COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION & LIVELIHOOD PRACTICES IN ZAGROS ARMARDEH REGION IN BANEH, KORDISTAN PROVINCE
- Oak Forest Research Centre was promoted through SGP project (IRA-G52-2002-018) and is a partner in this project helping to locate the villages
- IRSN in partnership with Caspian Integrated Yakhkesh Mountain Forest Management (IRA-G52-2003-032) in SGP project IRA-G52-2002-022 developed 2 cold climate biogas units in the Yakhkesh project site and has demonstrated the capacity and willingness to work at community level on renewable energies.
In partnership with the Forest Research Centre affiliated with the Kurdistan University and Anjoman Egtesad Energy Iran
- One of the 3 selected villages of Armardeh project will be chosen as a demonstration site to implement a combination of rural renewable energy technologies to replace the fuel wood consumption
- Oak Forest Research Centre will provide the entry point and also support the project in technical terms on community information
- A baseline will be prepared at micro level on required information for an optimized combination of technologies
- A quarterly newsletter will be prepared by the project
- Thesis work and papers will be promoted in the project
- A lessons learned booklet and a short documentary will be produced
- Project activities and results will be presented to experts and to SGP Forest Thematic Group by project active Core using project reports and power point presentations in order to affect policy.
- Forestry work will be linked to climate change indicators
- A midterm participatory review and a final workshop will be conducted
