Capacity building for YAMU Youth Group in fish farming activities aimed at environmental conservation and poverty reduction at Kirua Vunjo westward, which is within the forest catchments area

YAMU village has a natural pond which is not used efficiently as bvery few people utilize the water from this pond. The pond can increase the income of the communities around it bu establishing fish farming as it has provded that the fish are doing very well in this area. The project main objective is to improve the local fish farming to an advanced level so as to increase fish production as well as improving fish quality which in turn will increase income by 20%.

The main component of this project is to train youth in fish farming, The project will also traing the youth in fish procesing.

The project have a mixiture of both men and women with a target of youth. Out of the 60 members 23 are women

Replication of project activities

The project will be replicated by the community members to reach 60 ponds within the Yamu village with the intention of each member of the group to have its own pond.

This Project involve youth in capacity building in morden fish farming. The communities are participating by using their land for digging the fish ponds.

Project Results

-The project is expected to create jobs for people in Yamu village as well as increasing their income from 1000Tsh a day to 2500 Tsh a day from fish sale.One Kilo of fish sales at 2,500 Tsh.
-The project will also contribute in diversification of economic activities from agriculture dependency.
