In a soviet time activities devoted to the Day of birds were wide-ranged in educational institutions, stations of young naturalists, practical work on protection of birds and birds inhabitance improvement (manufacturing of feeding troughs, starling houses, nests) took place, studying of birds was arranged. But, attention to this issue has become much-much lower now, the activities are often unsystematical.

Project aim:
To make the ecological activity of environmental organizations and schools more effective the project "Birds are the friends of our childhood" implemented to raise awareness of the population of the region about a variety of birds.

Project tasks:
Involve schools, kindergartens, State educational department, Department of Environmental Protection, universities. During the project realization competitions, procession, lessons about birds, mass holidays, and excursions took place.

Project results:
- Population of the region got information on republican birds informational campaign holding by broadcasting, newspapers
- With project experts developed and held lesson on birds of East Kazakhstan region
- Pupils took part in contests, events, excursions
- NGO activities on birds conservation become more active
- Mass-media highlighted revival of the old traditions of rendering assistance to birds
