Cultivation of Indigenous Forest Orchids and Honey Trees in Meratus Mountain Forest
Project Development Goals:
To conserve the natural resources in the protected forest of Mount Meratus by increasing the economy value to the community through sustainable management of forest orchid and forest honey.
Project Objectives:
1. To prevent and minimize forest orchid exploitation in the area of protected forest of Mount Meratus.
2. To prevent and minimize illegal logging practices around Mount Meratus protected forest area.
3. To establish well-trained forest orchid cultivation group.
4. To establish well-trained cultivation group of various trees used as beehives for forest honey
5. To create database and inventory of various species of forest orchid and other trees used as beehives for forest honey.
Expected Outputs:
1. Establishing 1 (one) well-trained and community-based forest orchid cultivation group
2. Establishing 1 (one) well-trained cultivation group of various trees used as bee hives for forest honey.
3. Availability of database of various species of forest orchid and other trees used as bee hives for forest honey in the area of Mount Meratus protected forest.
Activities to be conducted:
1. Forest Orchid Cultivation Progamme
1.1 Establishing cultivation group
1.2 Technical training on forest orchid cultivation
1.3 Study tour to Kersik Luwai Natural Reserve, West Kutai, East Kalimantan
1.4 Cultivating 200 seeds of Forest Orchid in Kiyu
1.5 Marketing
1.6 Assisting 3 new cultivation group
2. Forest Honey Tree Cultivation Program
2.1 Planning process with community of Limbur Village
2.2 Developing agreement with Kepala Adat, Head of Village, and Head of Sub-district
2.3 Basic training to collect database of honey tree
2.4 Collecting database of honey tree
2.5 Providing 1000 seeds of honey tree
2.6 Village workshop to ratify ?honey tree certificate?
3. Monitoring and Evaluation
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries:
1. Direct : 33 honey farmers and 30 orchid farmers.
2. Indirect : 709 people of Hinas Kiri Village
