Development of the outrun cattle breading in Karaganda area through pastures water supply by using wind energy for land degradation prevention
EcoCentre NGO in connection with Akimat of Karaganda area, Department of Natural Resources Management, Department of agriculture and Department of energy has arranged a preliminary selection of rural districts of Karaganda area which have a deal with cattle breading and require water supply of the out run pastures and decrease pastures degradation round the settleents. Aktogay and Shetsk districts have been selected as focus ones. Here, the technologies of the out run pastures use has been broken, the rural population has no experienced herders, and there is lack of financial resources to arrange pasturing on the remote lands. All these factors have led to ecological, economic and social problems. Taking the progressing pastures degradation into account, instability of the cattle livestock could be observed in the nearest future, whereas cattle is the only income for many families on the area.

Project aim:
Decreasing load on the pastures of the round the settlements territories through assistance in development distant livestock sector of Karaganda area by irrigation of pastures organizing.

Project tasks:
- Water supply of 26K hectares of pastures in 8 settlements of Aktogay and Shetsk districts, Karaganda area, through usage of the wind water-engines
- Realization of information campaign about rational use of the outrun pastures with use of wind water-engines

Project results:
- At least 8 wind water engines are installed to supply the outrun pastures with water
- 26 thousands of hectares of pastures are irrigated
- Pressure on 75 hectares of the pastures round 8 settlements is decreased.
- Recommendation on rational pastures use with wind water engines in Russ and Eng are developed and distributed
- 16 people are trained in maintenance and repairing of the wind water engines
- The pasture yield is raised, the cattle breading outcome is increased, benefits of the local community (at least 160 families) is raised
