Rwambiti Muchungwa Micro-Hydro Power Project - Thimba River, Kirinyaga
Rwambiti Muchungwa Electricity Womens Group is building a micro-hydropower facility and power distribution system that will provide electricity to at least 86 households in the local community as well as small nearby shopping areas. As part of the project, a water canal will be built from the river to supply the microhydropower facility and a water main will be constructed to supply group members with piped water from the river. The project will also rehabilitate and protect approximately 100 hectares of the Thimba River water catchment through tree planting and community awareness activities. The group is working closely with the Ministry of Energy for technical in-put towards implementing this micro-hydro power project.
