The project aims to increase public awareness regarding the adverse affects of vegetable oils when released into the nature via the drains. The grantee will prepare a documentary and printed materials as well as organising collection points to collect oils from households and to facilitate their delivery to the closest biodiesel conversion plant for their use. The project, thereby, will both be effective in helping individuals to keep waste oils from being dumped to the nature (and cause pollution of underground water sources) and achieve the use of non-agricultural sources for biodiesel prodocution (as opposed to use of monoculture/GMO crop varieties, which require extensive amounts of agricultural land to be devoted to them). The project is also setting up a monitoring system for the Ministry of Environment, the interested companies and the public to be able to monitor where the collected oils are sent and the percentage of the conversion by the factories. With this transparency angle, the grantee also would be able to prevent the collected waste oils from being sent back to consumers in the form of re-bottled vegetable oils or at least as animal feed.
