The project that within the framework of PROMUGE?s work in Mabalane district noticed the need to promote a broad involvement of local district authorities together with local communities in environmental conservation while reducing the effects of poverty; an assessment concluded that part of the area?s problems can only be mitigated if adequate use of natural resources is promoted, alternative energy sources are sustainably used, reposition of exploited plant cover is adequately managed, and income generation activities that support livelihoods are promoted; reduction of women workload and working hours through use of improved stoves and alternative means of transport are also goals to achieve to expand project benefits.
