Towards Pollution Free Phuleli Canal Water for the protection of Biodiversity
Badin district faces the poor sanitation, poor drinking water supply and disposal of untreated sewages and domestic waste and untreated disposal of industrial effluents causing contamination, pollution and public health risks and loss of bio-diversity.
Water is essential for life. People, animals, and plants all need water to live and to grow. But in many parts of the world people lack enough water to stay healthy. Many people have to travel long distances to collect water. And often, the water that is available is not safe to drink. If people do not have enough water for their daily needs, they face hardship and serious illnesses. And if the available water is not safe ? because it is contaminated with germs, worms, or toxic chemicals ? this can also lead to many illnesses.
BDRO undertakes this project with the following major activities:
?Comprehensive research study on the quality of Phulleli canal water and establishing level of pollution and identify major threats to the biodiversity
Collection of water samples
?Analysis of the data and test of the water samples in laboratories,
?Dissemination of study findings among donor, media and in workshops and meetings and on GIS in collaboration with WWF GIS Lab. WWF has agreed to support.
? Sensitization workshop with Local Government and other stakeholders
?Introduction with all stockholders and community meetings for formation of ten ( 10) community pressure groups of effected communities
? Community awareness walks and dialogues with industrial groups and media
?Publishing of informative material
?Exposure visits for Media persons to Phulleli canal banks sites effected by the pollution
?Awareness on open defecation free environment in schools.
?Provincial level workshop to influence policy
