The Leather artisans and there families capacity building and feeling of Ownership as through knowledge upgradation and use of the wasted materials thus bringing scope for other livelihood opportunities also benefiting the local environment.

The capacity building has been addressed during the workshop of the cobblers on the utility of leather straps, tanning and designing. Upon identifying designing and art a non-polluting technology for leather scrap processing the cobblers were identified as pertained persons for designing and art, which can be utilized for the technology. Cobblers have made products like wall hanging, decorative wheel, shoe based key ring, leather belt, leather pocket for jeans etc. Several links have been formed with leather designing institutes like CLRI (Chennai), CII (New Delhi) and NID (Ahmedabad) to seek the recommendations on feasibility of the leather products made out of waste. Products have been appreciated but the market linkages are still to be identified.

Women were engaged n the leatherwork after their routine work. Men were involved in attending workshops and scraps based designing. Beneficiaries include 13 females and 17 men. 10 female and 10 male were involved in the training programs. Thus the project emphasized ion gender focus.
