Promotion of community involvement in protecting the environment of the surrounding area and the waters of Lake Victoria
Magu District is a sub-catchment of Lake Victoria Basin. it is one of the 8 districts of mwanza region with an area of 33,581.2 square kilometres. Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater body in the world supporting a human population of 30 million people. Over the last four decades, the biodiversity of the lake and its catchment has been comprosed. The indigenous fish species variety has reduced by 80% this is explained as being due to the introduction of exotic species which feed on the indigenous and small fish species. The project main objective is to conduct community awareness creation and sensitization meetings. They will also conduct training to 30 VIFESA field Volunteers/facilitators.
