Bio Diversity Conservation and Promotion of Livelihood through Environment Development Activities Mobilizing Local Resources
In a typical Terai district like Bara, people living far away from forest use cow dung cakes to cook their food. Lessons from project in Bara clearly showed that there is greater potential for public agroforestry for poor and underprivileged caste in Terai district. This not only met the demand of firewood but also provided steady income for the marginalised communities. In short term, the project proposed to install Improve Cook Stove (ICS) and bee hive briquette from Eupatorium where as the project also proposed to focus on public and private agroforestry, which would help them in long term supply of fuelwood. The project also aims at promoting school gardening there by using the waste land and helps improve the environmental stewardship of the local students.
