Improving The Quality of Life and Livelihood of the Rural Community Through Sustainable use of local resources
The project will implement an integrated Soil-Water-Biota Management (ISWBM) promoting community participation in sustainable development. A participatory approach will be followed to document local resources and its utilization including biodiversity assessment, valuable traditional knowledge systems & culture at village level for ensuring the process of sustainable use establishing a replicable model of sustainable livelihoods along with its future management plan.
The model developed through the project, i.e. integrated farming on coastal saline zone using harvested rain water and non-farm freshwater and coastal brackish water fisheries resources on the one hand and the skill development of the community through different capacity building exercised through the project on the other hand could be potentially replicated at other coastal saline zones or mangrove areas in India.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
A series of meetings (formal and non-formal) and strategic planning workshops with the members of the local organisations (club, societies, schools, etc.), panchayat members, government officials, community leaders and interested individuals (following PRA methodologies) to create awareness and also to sensitize all about the objectives and advantages of the project, and to select candidates for training to be imparted under this project.
Formation of 'Self Help Groups' (SHG) involving selected women and youth, Farmers' club with the farmers and 'Eco clubs' involving the school students and the local youths, will be made. The young talented local youths from the above listed groups will be selected for intensive training and to act as motivators/facilitators.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
Communities were involved to set up 2-3 women SHGs to have regular meetings taking decisions, agreeing joint modalities for the actions to be taken. This is leading to developing the local ownerships of the programs.
