Establishing traditional Water Harvesting System of the selected villages full of water and recharging of Ground Water for their Sustenance
Goal of the Project:
Restoring peoples? autonomy over their water sources.
Objectives:
Establishing traditional Water Harvesting System (TWHS)of the selected villages full of water and recharging of Ground Water for their Sustenance.

Project Outputs:
All the Naulas and Dharas of the 5 villages becoming full of water through out the year.

Project Beneficiaries:
People of 5 villages chosen, are the immediate beneficiaries. In case of a policy change, almost the entire rural population of the state would benefit.

Community Participation:
Communities? contribution will be mainly obtained in kind in form of shramdan by constructing trenches and carrying out plantation. Ownership of these TWHS will also be with the community and all efforts will be made to restore it, if it is not. The VLI will plan, execute and implement these works and the Village organization will play the role of facilitator and will be a path finder.

Global Environmental Impact:
Making Traditional Water Harvesting Systems, sustainable sources of water and carrying out plantations will be crucial for environment protection. Plantation of species that people select will not only be environmentally sustainable but will also fulfill biomass and livelihood requirements of locals.

Institutional Sustainability:
The community will play a deciding role in the project through village level institutions that will have representation of the entire village, including women and dalits. Village level Institutions(VLI) will meet regularly to decide what /who/ when- both about engineering and vegetative measures.

Replicability of the Project:
Project states that there are two kinds of activities one is carrying out engineering and vegetative measures in the catchments of these TWHS and managing them by their repairs and maintenance. The second activity is observing rituals and celebrating culturally important occasions. The VLI to be established to meet these tasks will be the proper institutions to sustain these activities. Once people realize the positive impacts of these activities in the form of easy availability of water, they would also realize the need to carry out these activities on a sustained basis and it will part of their culture that is the aim of the project.
