Organic agriculture is a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. Organic agriculture combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all parties involved.

The project succeeded in planting green areas on approx. 50 roof tops, using alternative soil in organic agriculture, which produces healthy and safe crops. Chemical pesticides were not used during cultivation. The project aimed at providing economic benefits by planting special products that were sold and provided suitable and stable income for local communities (beneficiaries). It also aimed at achieving GEF/SGP objective to protect the environment through the reduction of air pollution in Cairo and decreasing GHG emissions.

The project also succeeded in raising environmental awareness of the local community especially on climate change issue, as well as training nearly 100 men and women on growing surfaces and collective activities
By the end of the project 100 new jobs will be created, mostly for women in cleaning roofs, planting and selling their products with competitive prices to reputable restaurants located in the area, which generates stable income for poor families and helps improve their life conditions.
