Solid Waste Minimization and Valorization in the Douala IV Urban Council
Solid Waste Minimization and Valorization in the Douala IV Urban Council
Many environmental toxins like dioxins and furans are rejected in the environment from the burning of plastic and other solid waste. An alternative is to transform into compost manure the organic putrescible /biodegradable component of waste, which accounts for the largest fraction of the municipal solid waste produced, hence reducing the amount of waste to be disposed of, lowering landfill operation costs, prolonging their lifespan and promoting public participation and alternative livelihood (poverty alleviation measures) options through ecologically industrial development. This project concerns the sorting, transportation, temporal storage, sale /exchange with household consumables and recycling of plastic and glass waste from households, streets, enterprises and dumpsites. Also collection and recycling through sale to accredited recyclers or to factories already identified is envisaged.
