Project Development for Improving Water Buffalo Farming in Kizilirmak
Kizilirmak Delta is one of the most important Key Biodiversity Areas in Turkey, marked by its large wetlands, nesting and breeding potential for several important bird species and water buffalo's. The number of birds and water buffalo's have declined seriously in the area, in the recent years due to human intervention. The project aims to conserve them both by decreasing the intervention in the delta by humans for agriculture and to divert them back to water buffalo raising, which used to be an economically important activity, using both the animals products such as milk in industrial uses, counting on the very low upkeep requirements of the animal. The project development fund is given to the grantee for the assessment of the situation and the potential of water buffalo farming in the area.
