Local Community Empowerment for Sustainable Management of Sasbaki River Estuary
Sabaki River estuary is identified as an Important Biodiversity ARea within the coastal marine ecosystem supporting fisheries and over-wintering migratory birds. Despite its conservation importance, Sabaki River estuary is facing immense pressure from the locals through unregulated resource use for farming, fishing and tourism resulting in degradation.
the objectives of the project are:
(i) create conservation awareness amongst the Sabaki Community
(ii) build the organizational and advocacy capcity of the local Sabaki conservation constituency
(iii) Initiate and support sustainable community, nature-based enterprises that support the conservation of Sabaki Estuary. Enterprises include eco-tourism and bee-keeping.
(iv) Disseminate lessons from this project's initiatives
