PROJECT DEVELOPMENT GOAL:
Formulating planning to develop environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative energy resources for palm sugar industry on household level

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
Reviewing the possibilities of applying microhydro as an environmentally friendly alternative energy resources

EXPECTED OUTPUTS:
Existing review on the possibilities to develop renewable alternative energy resources to replace the firewood consumption for palm sugar industry on household level

ACTIVITIES TO BE CONDUCTED:
Series of review as follows:
1. Technical review, including:
a. Energy demand for palm sugar industry on household level as a whole (by having survey or interview with the palm sugar producer group).
b. Capacity of Bonan Dolok waterfalls to be used as the microhydro power plant (measuring debit fluxtuation and water usage)
c. Microhydro development regarding capacity of the power plant and technical design of the equipment
d. Design for stoves and joint cooking location to measure current eficiency of the stoves, to design electricity stoves, to design room for joint cooking and the appropriate location.
2. Social and Economical review, including:
a. Possibilities of behaviour changing from cooking palm sugar in separate places into one joint location (by having focus discussion with the palm sugar producer and community in general).
b. Cost and benefit analysis by comparing the current system with the planned system (by applying renewable energy)
c. Possibilities of managing organization (for palm sugar producer or for renewable energy management)

PROJECT PARTICIPANTS AND/OR BENEFICIARIES:
Direct beneficiaries: Palm sugar producer in four villages 40 households.
Indirect beneficiaries: People in four villages and Natural Resources Conservation Agency for North Sumatera.
