Promoting cultural tourism and Land rehabilitation in Mogotio, Koibatek district
Olduka lies in a semi arid area that has experienced severe soil erosion. Soil erosion has occured due to poor land use, such as over-grazing, unsuitable farming methods on slopes, and deforestation as a result of charcoal burning. The Olduka Self Help Group is keen to address land degradation and the resulting soil erosion by effecting the following measures: constructing a dam that will trap water and silt, terracing slopes to improve farming methods, planting aloe and tree seedlings. As a complementary effort, the Olduka community will exhibit culture and traditional practices to visitors of the site.
