Women Empowerment in Environmental Management: An Action Study.
Objective: The project has set the following objectives:
? Build capacity of women groups in the SGP grantees involved in natural resource based products to meet the market demand in terms of quality and quantity.
? Ensure market access to these groups by negotiating with the bulk buyers
? Assess social empowerment of these groups and the women to identify successful cases
Communicate these successful case studies widely both locally and nationally to various stakeholders, especially policy makers
Activities: Identify activities that enable women to use natural resources sustainably and/or profitably while protecting soil, biodiversity, water and energy resources
? Document the strategies used and the lessons that emerged
Systemization of this knowledge as case study documentation and analysis
Outputs: The project would achieve the following outputs:
? Documentation of best prices of conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and women empowerment through the same, as case studies, learning reports.
? Sharing of these findings widely in the society for awareness generation
? A network of about 10 voluntary agencies and community groups at national level to further the gender empowerment through environmental management activities
? Business plans for 5 ? 6 groups for long term economic prosperity
? A strategy to empower women through environmental management.

Policy Impact
Anetwork of 5 last phase and 5 next phase NGOs is promoting thrir regions , through action and linkage to government and donar agencies.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The organization has been able to train about 700 women across 40 women self help groups from 40 villages to regularly earn decent income (Rs. 1,200/- pm) through sustainable collection of medicinal plants in 4 districts. CCD helped to organize them and enable direct marketing to the industry, without the middlemen. There are over 1,000 women involved in medicinal plants collection & cultivation, who will get better earnings.
