Mushroom project for people living with disability
The project aims to reduce poverty, for people living with disabilities through income generating activities , such as mushroom production and training . Mushroom farming is an environmnetal friendly activity which utilizes organic waste emanating from agricultural and agro-industrial activities.In addition spent substrate can be used as organic fertilizers, soil conditioner in field crop and vegetavle production and also as a supplement to livestock feed.

The University of Namibia will provide technical expertise and mentoring using the ZERI principles. Approximtely +- 15 families will benefit through this initiative.

The project is located in the Otjozondjupa region in the Otjiwarongo constituency , town of Otjiwarongo.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
At the moment mushrooms are imported from neighbouring South-Africa and the Namibia Agronomic Board has pledge is assistance in reducing the quota of mushroom from outside the country thus opening a window for promoting localy produce products . The project sustainability will be insured via the sales of the mushrooms therefore creating jobs, create income and improving livelihoods of it membership.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The Mushroom farming technics are based on the ZERI principles of re-using nantural resources , recycling organic waste of substrate used fro farming.
