Silk Worm Rearing Project in Imenti South - Phase II
The CBO will work with the Ministry of Agriculture Extension staff in implementation of a silk worm rearing project. The project hopes to assist 30 house holds (15 women, 15men) to generate adequate income for household needs from silk worm rearing and sale of silk. The project also helps to increase tree cover by planting 6,000 mulberry trees on each members property, which will also provide the food necessary for rearing of the silkworms.

Fifteen group members will be trained on silk worm rearing and management of mulberry trees. These will form the base of members trained, from which others will learn.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Silkworms will provide a sustainable livelihood source through the production and sale of silk. The growing of silkworms does not negatively impact the environment as the inputs (i.e., mulberry leaves) are a sustainable resource. The mulberry trees will also help to restore forest cover.
