The use of hydro-rams to supply water to houses (Demonstration of possibilities for alternative energy sources use to ensure the domestic demands of the rural communities in a mountainous areas of Kazakhstan)
Kokzhar settlement is now one of the pilot territories of implementation of the UNDP/GEF project ?Conservation of in-situ mountain agrobiodiversity in Kazakhstan». Bee-keeping and ecological tourism is supposed to be developed in the area. But the infrastructure of the settlement needs to be developed first. There?s no centralized water supply system in the settlement, people have to drag water manually.
Project aim:
The project is aimed at implementation and demonstration of hydro-rams use for water supply in mountainous conditions on the territory of Alakol district, Almaty area.
Project tasks:
- Kokzhar settlement water supply through installation of 4 hydro-rams;
- Wide information campaign arrangement to demonstrate alternative energy use possibilities.
Project results:
- 4 hydro-rams are installed and functioned;
- 80% of the settlement population is supplied with water,
- 200 people are supplied with water for economic needs;
- Informational seminar on alternative energy use in rural areas is held with participation of the local authorities;
- Hydro-rams serving personnel is trained, hydro-rams services costs are covered by the local community
- Articles and brochure about hydro-rams use in mountainous areas are published.
