Reduction of Deforestation and Carbon Dioxide Emissions by Creating Alternative Livelihoods from Waste Products in Grenada.
This planning grant will help the grantee to determine the feasibility of using plant waste to produce briquettes as an alterantive to charcoal. During the project, the grantee will undertake the following activities:
(i) Research; (ii) Convene Planning meetings; (iii) Audio visual documentation of the process; (iv) Undertake a study of the environmental impacts; and (v) Draft, review and finalise a full grant project proposal.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The goal of the project is to create a sustainable alternative to charcoal which can be used in rural areas. It is hoped that the project will create micro businees opportunities for the poor and marginalised.
Capacity - Building Component
The reseach and project management capacity of the grantees will be developed during the planning grant phase.
