Improving environmental conservation and community levelihood at Kilema Pofo Village, Moshi
CONTEXT:
St. Michael Nursery school is located at Himo Njiapanda area .This area has problems of water for domestic use. The area is also very dry with few trees. This nursery was officially opened in 2007. The nursery school is focusing on supporting orphans and disabled children. The school provides porridge to the children. Due to water shortage in this area this Nursery school is requesting funds to construct rainwater harvesting tank and to establish a woodlot so as to solve the problem of water and fuel wood shortages. The school is also requesting for an efficient cooking stove to reduce the consumption of fuel wood.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVE:
(1) To improve availability of drinking water
(2) To reduce fuel wood consumption at St. Michael nursery school
(3) To sensitize the community surrounding the Centre on water harvesting techniques and environment conservation
BENEFIT OF THE PROJECT
(1) women and children will save time which was previously used for searching water and fuel wood
(2) They will have clean and safe water
(3) They will have clean kitched free from smoke generated by three sone fire places
(4) They will save money which was previously used for treating children as a result of drinking contaiminated water
