Installation of solar mini-electric power stations to generate electricity for 5 farms in the South Kazakhstan oblast
Power supply of the South Kazakhstan area basically occurs at the expense of import of the electric power from the neighboring state, which is carried out recently with considerable faults. Besides, there are 70,250 farms in the South Kazakhstan area, and 13 % (that makes 9132 farms) of them has no electricity. This fact negatively reflects on livelihood of farmers.
In the situation when fuel costs rise every season, shortage of power resources and faults in electricity supply occurs regularly, installation of solar minipower stations on apartments and seasonal remote pastures will allow providing farmers with stable power supply. It will also affect decreasing of gas emissions, and raises local population livelihood.
Project aim:
Demonstrate possibilities of the solar energy use for electrical supply of farms in 5 districts of the South Kazakhstan oblast and popularization of renewable energy sources among local populations of the area
Project tasks:
- Installation of 5 demonstration solar minipower stations on the selected objects of Sajram Tolebi, Kazygurt, Bajdibek, Tulkubas areas of the South Kazakhstan area
- Development of the training module and instructions for farmers on operation of solar minipower stations. Training carrying out on the developed module
- Realization of PR-campaign to popularize renewed energy sources and distribute the project results
Project results:
- 5 solar minipower stations (capacity of 1 kw) on the selected objects in 5 districts of South Kazakhstan are established, livelihood conditions of 5 farms are improved
- Due to 5 solar minipower installations 3,75 CO2 gas emissions has decreased
- Training module and instructions is developed for users of solar minipower stations
- Training for farmers on maintenance f solar minipower stations, prospects and development of renewed power is carried out
- On the example of indicative minipower stations population of the area gets the equipment on a leasing basis.
- The awareness of the population of the South Kazakhstan area on the issues has risen

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Besides 5 chosen farms, project trained 25 farmers on training on equipment operating issues and technical possibilities of mini power plant, as well as alternative energy perspectives and development.
Notable Community Participation
Farmers of 5 districts of the Southern Kazakhstan area take part in the project implementation. They bring contribution both in a form of real financial investments into the equipment purchasing, installation and maintenance and natural and labour contribution.
