Dry-lot Cattle Feeding as the Adaptation Cattle Farming Method to Reduce the Climate Change Risks
Planning Phase
1. The grant will finance the meeting of village inhabitants and the workshop in Zhangeldy Village to encompass all the stakeholders and discuss all the projects sections, activities, timing, stakeholders to be involved and the budget.
2.The experts will be delegated to visit the project site to collect the information about the climate changes, conditions of the rancho site, conditions of pastures, pastoral management practices, social-economic standing of the community members, the number and quality of stock, the conditions and quality of enclosure, the existing and proposed loads on pastoral lands under the conditions of growing aridity and degradation induced by the climate change. The planning phase will involve the experts in geobotany, pastoral management and ecology.
3.The experts will elaborate the forecast aridization scenarios in the project area and develop the system of using enclosed pastures with natural vegetation focused on reducing the risks induced by the land degradation related with the climate change. The proposed method will be focused on the sustainable cattle farming development and building the LC capacities of using the area-specific cattle breed (Kazakh White-Head Breed) adapted to the arid climate of the south of Kazakhstan.
4.In consultation with the local community the final and detailed project proposal will be developed and presented to SGP GEF National Coordinator.
5.The vulnerability reduction assessment will be based on the example of the forecast scenarios in view of the potential changes in pastoral productivity under the growing aridity conditions.
6.The sources of financing for the planning phase will be UNDP CBA grant and the proponent?s own funds
