Establishment of an inventory of biodiversity in the Klein Karas Resettlement Farm
The goal of the project is to raise awareness among the resettlement beneficiaries on managing their environment and biodiversity found in their farms through biodiversity inventory and the importance of conserving it for their own benefit as well as for future generation.
The project will undertake an inventory of fauna and flora in Klein Karas resettlement and establish a baseline for future monitoring system which will guide the conservation management of one of the few farms under group resettlement scheme in the Southern Namibia.
Raise awareness of biodiversity conservation and positive environmental attitude among the community members in the farm and beyond while reducing poverty through printing and selling of posters, booklets to the tourists and public and restore and conserve threatened succulent plants through establishing a nursery and rehabilitate degrated areas.
The Klein Karas Resettlement farm is located in Karas Region in the Keetmanshoop rural constituent and about 200 km South of Keetmanshoop town and 37 km (northwest) of Grunau village. The farm is along the road to Fish River Canyon (Grunau Seeheim road) and neighbouring with well established tourism developments e.g. it borders with Gondwana on the western side and Ai-Ais hot spring on the southern side. These places have high annual average number of tourists. There are about 4 primary schools in the constituent that will be impacted by the project

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
Community members will be trained in record keeping and financial management to keep the track of sold materials.
Mmebers will be trained in in small stock farming together with local land use plan . This will encourage farmers to continue practicing good animal husbandry and conserving the natural resources and maintaining the nursery as they experience tangible impact on the ground. The community in collaboration with all stakeholders will continue to carry on with the project especially in monitoring of the biodiversity and successful conservation management strategies to ensure the community?s fauna and flora remains a lasting heritage for the region, nation and international community.
Gender Focus
The project comprise of 60% of women and 40% men who will be involved in the implementation of the project.
