COLLECTION AND CONSERVATION OF GENETIC VARIETY OF GRAPE VARIETIES IN ALBANIA
Albania is a still an undeveloped source of indigenous and ancient grape varieties of which only a small number has been properly catalogued and identified.
This project will operate mostly in the south eastern part of the country and will contribute in the establishment of 2 regional repositories for the local grape varieties. The project is expected to collect and place in the repositories about 30 traditional varieties. The varieties will be offered for recognition and registration by the National Authority for Plants and Seeds.
The project will also distribute among interested farmers about 2,000 cuttings (with Phylloxera resistant grafting) from the indigenous varieties.
