Green Wave Belize
The Belize Audubon Society (BAS) is the oldest environmental non-governmental organization in Belize. BAS is a membership organization dedicated to the sustainable management of Belize?s natural resources through leadership and strategic partnerships with stakeholders in order to create a balance between people and the environment. BAS manages seven terrestrial protected areas.

The goal of the project is to coordinate and promote the Green Wave in Belize raising awareness about biodiversity in general, and contributes to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) programme of work on Communication, Education and Public Awareness.

Description of Project Activities

Objective 1:
Activity 1.1: Coordinate the six rural primary schools, Belize City council and their youth programme to participate in the Green Wave on May 22nd, 2009.

Activity 1.2: Procure and distribute 2000 native species for students to simultaneously plant and water on May 22nd.

Activity 1.3: Coordinate one rural and one urban event for May 22nd to create public awareness of the effort.

Objective 2:
Activity 2.1: Preparation and production of educational material: coloring book ?One tree, one gift to nature? and informational CD on the biodiversity it?s importance and threats.

Activity 2.2: Outreach to the six schools and the City council youth programme that buffer the BAS managed protected areas. These will be the target audience for the educational material and information will be disseminated to all.

Activity 2.3: Coordinate a poster competition with its written description amongst all six schools.
