Empowering Local Communities for Ecological and Environmental Security and enhanced livelihoods
Objective:
? To increase awareness on the issues and impacts concerning environmental degradation particularly for adaptation to climate change.
? Capacity building of women self help group in assessing the environmental impact of various livelihood options and identification of appropriate activities for sustainable livelihoods.
? Identify livelihood opportunities from the environmental conservation activities;
? Nursery raising and plantation
? Smokeless Chullah
? Food processing using solar dryer
? Rearing of small ruminants
? Vermin composting and organic farming
? Advocacy for the appropriate change in government policies and sharing through workshops with stakeholders at various levels.
Output:
Output No I: Introduction of Green Energy:
Inroduction of Smokeless chullhas with support of Maharana Pratap Agriculture University.
Introduction of ?Solar driers? for vegetables and introducing ways for livelihoods.
Introduction of other small green technologies with women.
Output No 2: Increased alternatives and backup livelihood opportunities through local bio-diversity conservation:
Nursery development on a range of local plantations.
Community involvement in creating the local ownerships.
Output No 3: Creation of sustainable livelihood activities:
Explore more opportunities for income enhancement through SHGs using livestock and animal husbandry practices.
Introduce local breeds of poultry for better incomes.
Output No 4: Increased agriculture production, knowledge and skills:
Member?s management and technical capacities built which help in proper managent of their own and common development efforts.
Bargaining power will increase and helped in increasing market demand.
Increased self reliance of women through managing sales for the produce.
Introduce local fodder species in partnership with agriculture and forest deptts.
Output No 5: Skill improvement in managing the enterprises:
- Overall capacity building.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
The NGO plans to form Sukhi Mahila SEVA mandal executive committee in the project areas. The members of these committee will be involved in the planning, implementing and monitoring of all the project activities. The members will contribute their time, place and sometime raw materials for the project activities. The members will also contribute in the cash\ kind and will play active role in the decision making. These committees will have more participation of the women from the tribal communities.
Capacity - Building Component
The organization plans to organize a number of training sessions for the capacity and confidence building of its members. 6000 village members involved in capacity building and economic activity training.These programs include training on nursery raising, on preparation of vermi compost and also for the proper handling of Solar driers and Smokeless chullas.
