Assessment and Community Based Restoration of Mangroves along the Eastern Coast of Grenada
This project builds on the study titled: Craig Laymann et al (2006) Grenada and Grenadines Wetlands Assessment - Preliminary Findings and Recommendations which was funded by several donors including the TNC. It also meets the thematic focus of the Grenada CPS and responds to concerns articulated by the Government of Grenada in recent meetings with the grantee.
This planning grant will enable the grantee to : (i) undertake research to ascertain the present status of the mangroves and where a community stewardship programme can be started; (ii) Convene meetings with all stakeholders including community groups in the mangroves selected for restoration; (iii) Carefully document the entire planning process; and (iv) draft and review the project proposal which willl address the ecological, economic and social issues associated with mangroves in Grenada.
