Project Location:Taghebostan Kordestan(Lat/Long:35.143195-46.245575)
Background
Bistoun area with mountain stone carvings on a 12000 m cliff with an ancient history has both cultural heritage and natural heritage such as elevated mountains. The Paraw mountain and cave are such examples which have been explored by French, British, Polish mountaineers and cave explorers. As these are splendid mountains with wildlife, large cliffs and deep valleys, outside climbers require local guides to assist them in mountain and cliff climbing. Lives of climbers of other parts of Iran have been lost in Paraw cave and mountain falls due to the unfamiliarity with the area.
Project activities are:
The grantees are local mountaineers groups interested in protecting the mountain environment of this part of Zagros and believe in presenting the information they have gathered over many years to other mountaineers and eco tourists by:
? Producing booklets and maps for introducing the characteristics of these peaks, mountain paths, plant species, wildlife and technical maps in a guide format
? Producing traditional forest management of Oak forests in Sayaz Beigh Village in Gillangharb
? A story book on mountains and the legend of creation of mountains
? Booklet on introducing the plant species of the area for protection and for rehabilitation
? Introducing the Green Paths of Paraw mountain in another SGP project
? Liaising with various provincial and local stakeholders who are involved in mountain permits.
