AWARENESS RAISING BY PRODUCING EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL ON CASPIAN SEAL AND 10 ENDAGERED SPECIES IN IRAN
AWARENESS RAISING BY PRODUCING EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL ON CASPIAN SEAL AND 10 ENDAGERED SPECIES IN IRAN
Project Location: Tehran (Lat.35.553383; Long.51.383057)
Project background:

Within Iran, public education campaigns on matters of environmental and biodiversity protection have proven most effective in formation and implementation of conservation efforts. The former absence of information on wildlife, particularly endemic and endangered species, has threatened much of the biotic life regionally and globally. Through the preparation and dissemination of educational products like booklets, manuals and lesson plans, the public has begun to recognize its role as an essential stakeholder in conservation efforts. Furthermore, these educational tools have proven effective in stimulating a sense of responsibility in protecting wildlife and natural resources.

If continued, these steps will feed into the ultimate conservation goals; without which endangered and threatened species could result in potential extinction. The previous and ongoing void of knowledge has resulted in direct and indirect adverse impacts on regional biodiversity. It is with this kind of that we can actualize our conservation efforts to help preserve this global biodiversity hotspot.

Project activities are:

?In this project, three booklets on the conservation of the Caspian seal will be published. The Caspian seal materials have been prepared under a grant by University of Leeds. Under this project they will be edited and published for public use.

?These 3 booklets focus on teacher and student education at the primary and secondary school level. Each of the given curricula has been tailored to appeal both to the regional and social needs of the teachers and students in the Caspian region.

?Ten educational brochures on the endangered species of Iran will be completed and published. Our intended purpose is to continue to spread information and educate the public regarding the importance and value of wildlife within Iran.

?Produce a multimedia on the Caspian seal. The grantee was urged to apply for a CEP MSGP as for developing this material in 3 languages of Persian, English and Russian for a wider spread around the Caspian Sea.
