Mangrove Resource Conservation and Coastal Environment Protection to Enhancing Local Community Livelihoods
This project is aiming at protection of 5,466 ha of existing mangrove areas and conservation for Community Based Ecotourism Development inside the UNEP-SCS demonstration sites in Peam Krasaop wildlife sanctuary, Koh Kong province, Cambodia. The project will also support sustainable community-base activities in Peam Krasaop wildlife sanctuary to plant mangrove tree in 50 ha of degraded land. They will also address the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources mainly fisheries and mangrove resources in the area under increasing human pressure on those resources by improving community based ecotourism services and organizing 2 women saving & self-help groups to create community-based alternatives livelihood.
1.2 Objectives:
i) To strengthening roles and responsibilities of Community Protected Areas (CPA) committee members to manage 5,466 ha of existing mangrove areas under their management.
ii) To build capacity of CPA committee members and Commune Council in Community Based Ecotourism Development and conservation of mangrove resources.
iii) To rehabilitation of 50 ha of depredated land by planting mangrove tree and protection of the young tree.
iv) To raise awareness and dissemination of mangrove ecotourism site to community members and all tourist in Cambodia.
v) To reflect and evaluated of project implementation and develop a new development plan.

1.3 Outputs:
- The CPA regulations and management structure was recognised and implemented.
- 5,466 ha of mangrove protected areas under management of CPA were protected and conservation for ecotourism for supporting community livelihood.
- 2 women saving group will be organized for increasing other option for their livelihood.
- All CPA committee members and 6 Commune Council members have leadership skills and natural resources management.
- Increasing members of tourist visited Community Based Mangrove ecotourism in Peam Krosoap and community members have increased their incomes from ecotourism services.
- 50ha of degraded land were replanting mangrove tree and protected.
- More than 150 families get direct benefit from participated in planting mangrove tree especially poor family, women headed household and school students.
- Decreasing illegal fishing and cutting of mangrove tree inside community management areas.
- Fishermen have cooperated with CPA committee members commune Council and technical institution in reporting of illegal fishing activities.

1.3 Activity:
- nConduct meeting with community members and local authority to select working group in assisting CPA committee members in implementing project.
- Develop and review CPA regulations and internal rules.
- Quarterly meeting to follow up mangrove conservation activity
- Organizing women saving groups
- Provide training on leadership and coordination of natural resources management
- Conduct study tour to other province that have more experiences in managing ecotourism project.
- Prepare and strengthening eco-tourism services.
- Mangrove planting of 50 ha and follow it progress
- Producing promotion material such as posters, signed board
- Workshop on Project end evaluation

Notable Community Participation
- The community have put their in kind contribute to the project equal to USD $ 5 ,290 - The total beneficiary from the project is 150 families especially, poor people, widow and students. - This project will help committees to get more experience in managing, implementing development project in their communes and dissemination the information to their communities to be aware of natural resources for surrounding environment and for their livelihood security.
