Absence of nature resources management plan on forests leads to regular conflicts between hunters and local community, same time both don?t understand necessity of natural resources conservation and its benefits. Such situation causes poaching, including on endangered species, degradation of biocommunity, instability of forest, which hamper local community development much. These problems are common for many forests in the country and are main limiting factors for Manul forest, which is project territory. Solving this problems allow nature conservation and local community development same time.

Project aim:
Improve inhabitance conditions and populations of globally threatened and hunting species on the key territory in the valley of the Ili River, demonstration of integrated approach to the hunting management.

Project tasks:
- Inhabitance conditions and populations of globally threatened and hunting species on the key territory in the valley of the Ili river
- Development and implementation of the modern hunting management plan with development of alternative activities and biodiversity preservation;
- Development of ecotourism as alternative kind of activity in terms of hunting
- Work with designers and builders of transport corridors and pipeline to minimize their damage;
- Involvement of students as future Kazakhstan experts, in nature protection and scientifically-practical activities

Project results:
- On "Manul" hunting territory (127,270 hectares) developed and implemented a modern management plan, a complex of additional biotech, security, and outreach activities that improve the status of populations of globally threatened species of animals and hunting, established a system to monitor them
- To increase the productivity of land planted forage crops, local trees and berry bushes in the area of 10 hectares, established their watering using solar energy
- Produced and distributed among hunters and the local population booklet of rare species of animals and plants of the valley or 1000 copies, and a booklet for travel agencies edition 100 copies
- Develop alternative activities (tourism), reduce pressures on biodiversity and provide additional revenue for hunting and the local population (not less than 30 people) will be developed at least 3 different routes in the territory
- Trained -4 students - future professionals in the field of study and conservation of biodiversity, which will provide further support for monitoring, management and dissemination of project experience
- Worked out and demonstrated advanced integrated approaches to biodiversity conservation in the hunting management of for possible use of the results of the project in Kazakhstan
